As part of our global scouting tour and MENA Roadshow, the Dubai Smart City Accelerator, powered by Startupbootcamp, invites startups in Jordan to join us for a Smart City Pitch Night on July 1st.

Who is eligible? 

Startups in Jordan (post-ideation to pre-series A stage) with solutions in the following Smart City industries are encouraged to apply:

What does the Pitch Night look like? 

Come ready to pitch your solution, receive instant feedback from the Dubai Smart City Accelerator (DSCA) team and a panel of industry mentors. The DSCA team will share more about the Accelerator program, which is currently open for applications for cohorts 3 & 4, and discuss overall trends in the Smart Cities industry in MENA.

Teams that attend a Pitch Night are 2.5x more likely to be invited to the final selection days, which will take place on September 3-4, 2019.

The experience is extremely valuable for everyone attending: teams learn from personalized feedback they get as well as from feedback that other teams receive. As the event is informal, you will also have the chance to connect with the mentors and other participating teams from the local ecosystem.

Ibrahim “Abe” Seksek

Ibrahim “Abe” Seksek is the current Managing Director of Dubai Smart City Accelerator, powered by Startupbootcamp. Before joining Startupbootcamp he Co-Founded a couple of companies such as ZenHR Solutions, which addresses the entire HR cycle, and Crystel, Jordan’s first business process outsourcing (BPO) provider. Ibrahim also worked as Head of Global Operations Support for Naspers, the parent company of dubizzle and OLX, which oversaw the operations in 70 countries.

Leen Nabulsi

Leen Nabulsi

Leen Nabulsi is COO of Startupbootcamp’s Dubai Smart City Accelerator. Previously, she worked as Entrepreneur in Residence with Startupbootcamp and served as Entrepreneur Search & Selection Manager at Endeavor, a global organization leading the high-impact entrepreneurship movement around the world. During her employment, Leen proactively screened entrepreneurs and engaged with corporate leaders, founders and investors. Further to her duties, Leen also managed a portfolio of 10 scale-ups, assessed their priority needs including capital needs and strategic alliances, and deployed Endeavor services accordingly through local and global networks. 

Leen then shifted to working with one of the Endeavor portfolio companies; Alissar Flowers, to launch their e-commerce platform, taking their retail shops online. Her role focused on hiring the team, facilitating training, and managing the whole operation in both UAE and Jordan. This included everything from operations, fulfillment and pricing to product development and partnerships.

Leen graduated from Bentley University in Massachusetts with a Bachelors in Business Management and Marketing. 


Tambi Jalouqa

Tambi Jalouqa

As CEO, Tambi Jalouqa heads the overall mission and strategy of Propeller Inc., while managing the day-to-day operations and leading the team.

He has founded and led several technology startups; building teams and products that deliver tangible value to their customers. 

He is passionate about software craftsmanship and user experience that deliver products that are agile, customer-centric and scalable.

Tambi is an active member of the local tech and UX design communities, working to elevate the technical talent base in Jordan. 

He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Petra University.

Manaf Asfour

VC Principal, Propeller Inc.

Manaf Asfour

Manaf is responsible for building partnerships and relationships with fellow industry players, in addition to fostering our community of companies at Propeller Inc.

Manaf previously worked with several international startups and founded his own IoT and logistics management startup in Madrid. Prior to that, he held senior roles in corporate finance at Royal Jordanian and investment banking at AB Invest in Jordan.

Manaf holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from IE Business School and B.A. in Finance and Investment Management from the University of Jordan.

Zaid Farekh

Zaid Farekh

Stemming from his decade-long experience as founder of Sitech, a regional enterprise software firm, Zaid, alongside other Partners, founded Propeller on the core premise of supporting aspiring founders in building highly scalable technology companies. 

Sitech specializes in building scalable technologies and products, and has served a wide spectrum of clients ranging from globally renowned organizations and governments to prominent technology startups.

Zaid, in both his personal capacity and via Sitech, supports Propeller with; sourcing deals, assisting portfolio companies with technology direction and conducting technology due diligence on prospective startups, in addition to holding a seat on the Investment Committee.

Zeid Husban

Zeid Husban

Zeid obtained his Bachelor`s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Kent in UK in 2008. He then moved back to Jordan and started his professional life as a technical support engineer, Zeid and a partner then founded in 2012, an online food ordering platform.

Despite being a self-funded venture, both partners managed to eliminate all four competitors in the Jordanian market after few months of operations, with an annual growth of 200 percent, attracted the eyes of investors from abroad and in 2013, the company sold a majority stake to the Turkish food ordering company Yemeksipeti. Zeid sold the rest of his shares in in 2016 after a successful acquisition by the global giants “Delivery Hero”.

Since then, Zeid started another venture with the vision to revolutionize the point of sale systems in the region with a cloud-based product called “POSRocket”.

Mohammed Al-Shaker

Founder & CEO at ArabiaWeather Inc.

Mohammed Al-Shaker

Mohammed Al-Shaker is the founder and CEO of ArabiaWeather Inc.  He oversees the company’s continuous growth and expansion and is responsible for further developing ArabiaWeather’s comprehensive portfolio of proprietary solutions for businesses and consumers throughout the region.

Mohammed founded the company in 2006 as a single-page application publishing weather forecasts for over 25 locations in Jordan. In response to the growing demand for accurate weather reporting across the Arab World, Mohammed rebranded the company and officially launched ArabiaWeather in 2011.

Since then, ArabiaWeather has grown to become the top weather service provider in the Middle East, and he led the deploying of weather stations over the Middle East, coupled with regionally adapted algorithms, enhance forecast accuracy and precision, differentiating the company from local weather services and international providers who draw on crude data from global satellites and use generic algorithms.

 Recently, Mohammed was named as the chairman of the Jordan Entrepreneurship and Innovation Association “JEIA” looking to support the local efforts in entrepreneurship and innovation.

In 2013, Mohammed was named Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. Mohammed was also featured on the cover of Forbes Middle East as the founder of one of the most innovative startups in the region.

Mohammed supplemented his pharmacology degree (2011) with certificates in Advanced Forecasting and Aeronautical Aviation from the United Kingdom’s Met Office College.

Ehab Al-Shurafa

Ehab is an ICT executive with over 20 years of experience providing thought leadership and differentiated solutions to internal and external clients. Prior to joining ArabiaWeather, Ehab led the Cloud, IoT, and Big Data practice at TELUS, Canada’s leading telco and ICT provider.

 Ehab completed his CMA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing in Toronto, Canada.

Laith Zraikat

Laith Zraikat

As Partner at Arzan Venture Capital, Laith has lead many investments into technology companies in MENA, North America, and UK. He covers most verticals but is specifically passionate about SaaS, marketplaces, logistics, and teansportation. His investment thesis: honest hard working founders backed by data.

A proud Endeavor Entrepreneur, Laith started his journey in 1997 to bring more people and businesses from the Arabic speaking world onto the World Wide Web. He started what became one of the most notable startups in the Arab World for the next 15 years; As Co-founder of Jeeran, Laith served many roles while shaping and executing the company’s product vision, and growing its user base from a handful of friends to 7M. In 2012 as Jeeran matured he decided to take a step back and left the company, taking on advisory and consulting roles with startups such as TasmeemME, OpenSooq, Akhtaboot, LunchOn, and HelloWorldKids.

A self taught technologist and geek at heart, Laith enjoys working closely with developers and designers on solving product challenges. He still codes almost daily, and speaks fluent Arabic, English, Objective-C, Swift, PHP, C#, JavaScript, SQL, CSS, HTML, and a little bit of Python. Laith holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Jordan.

Tamer Al-Salah

Tamer Al-Salah

Tamer Al-Salah is the Managing Director of BeyondCapital, a company established in 2017 to mature the entrepreneurial and investment ecosystem in Jordan. Prior to joining BeyondCapital, Tamer held several positions within the entrepreneurial and SME support space in Jordan, where his most recent position was Projects Specialist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a leading international financial institution, where he managed advisory projects to over 70 SMEs across Jordan.

Al-Salah embarked on his career journey as a member of the Search and Selection team, and later promoted to Entrepreneur Services and Growth Manager at Endeavor Jordan, a global non-profit organization for selecting and supporting high-impact entrepreneurs to join its global network. 

Tamer graduated from the University of Essex with a MSc. in International Business and Entrepreneurship in 2009 and from the New York Institute of Technology with a BSc. in Management Information Systems in 2007.  


Leen Ashqar

Leen Ashqar

Leen Ashqar is the Program Manager at Propeller Inc, a startup accelerator in Jordan focused on product and technology. Leen holds an MSc in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management from Imperial College London and a BSc in Biotechnology and Genetics from the University of Toronto.
Throughout her career, Leen has been heavily involved in the startup scene, having worked with several, including a health-tech startup in Toronto. During her time in Toronto, Leen also co-founded a Middle-Eastern home-based catering business, where she managed operations while helping out in the kitchen.
At Propeller, Leen works on the design, implementation and measurement of Propeller’s customized acceleration program, working closely with founders on a daily basis.
Madison Marks

Marketing Manager, Startupbootcamp

Madison Marks

Madison Marks is currently the Marketing Manager at the Dubai Smart City Accelerator, powered by Startupbootcamp. Madison brings 5+ years of experience in program and community management with tech, entrepreneurship, education, and female empowerment initiatives between the US and Arab world. She previously worked as the Community Manager with womena, an enabler platform for female investors and female-led tech companies in the MENA region. She also has worked managing projects for US State Department-funded initiatives in Jordan and Lebanon, and spent four years managing grants and youth engagement programs with Qatar Foundation International in Washington D.C. She holds a Masters in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and a BA in Middle East Studies from Florida State University. She also holds a board position with the MENAR Fellowship program.
